Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s 2018 Nominees Have Been Announced

The nominees for next year’s induction into the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame have been announced! Some of our favorite artists here at WOGA are among the nominees!

The biggest criteria for eligibility is that an artist must have released their debut more than 25 years previously. This means that the newest bands to be eligible must have released their debut in ’92. No worries; most of our artists are a bit older than that!

We’re sure you’re dying to know who’s nominated, so we’ll get right to the point! Among the nominees are Bon Jovi, Dire Straits, The Moody Blues, Kate Bush, The Cars, The Zombies, Depeche Mode, Eurythmics, J. Geils Band, Nina Simone, and Sister Rosetta Tharpe. That’s quite a few of our most well-known hitmakers!

For the metalheads among our listeners, prominent British heavy metal band Judas Priest is on the list as well. Provocative ’90s hard rockers Rage Against The Machine and English prog rock masters Radiohead are also among the nominees, as this is the first year they’ve been eligible.

Our next question is, how exactly are the winners chosen? According to Ultimate Classic Rock, ballots will be sent out to over 900 voters, a pool that includes fellow artists, historians, and other members of the music industry. The criteria they’re to keep in mind while voting are how the artist influenced others, how they innovated and displayed superiority in style as well as technique, plus the length and depth of their career.
