Queen on Tour!

Classic rock band Queen has recently embarked upon a large North American tour. The 26-city trek across the continent began last Friday in Glendale, Arizona. Two long-term members, guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor, are still going strong and keeping the band alive. Just last week, we talked about Brian May’s revelation that there are unreleased tapes from the band’s legendary 1981 recording sessions featuring David Bowie. It seems May is quite busy with all things Queen these days, and we couldn’t be happier to see them still making waves.

You’re likely wondering, who could be filling in for the legendary Freddie Mercury? The charismastic frontman, known for his massive range and incredible energy, unfortunately passed away in 1991. We dare say that nobody could ever hope to truly fill his shoes, but many others have stepped up to pay respectful tribute over the years. George Michael, Elton John, Nate Reuss, Lady Gaga, and others have all temporarily shared the stage with the band at one time or another. This time around, the young and talented Adam Lambert will be holding the mic.

Lambert entered the spotlight as a contestant in the eighth season of American Idol in 2009. Although he lost to Kris Allen in the finale, he won over many Americans with his powerful performances and has since gone on to enjoy a successful musical career, with singles “Whataya Want From Me” and “Ghost Town” charting on the US Billboard.

Not convinced that Adam is up to the task? The band has released a highlight video from Friday’s performance on their official YouTube channel. Check it out below and decide for yourself!

A full list of tour dates can be found on Queen’s website. For listeners in our area, the closest tour dates are likely New York City or Philadelphia.
