Cyndi Lauper, Joe Perry and Steven Tyler Lend Their Talent To Spongebob Musical

A new musical based on your children’s favorite animated undersea sponge will be hitting Broadway this November, but you can get your hands on the star-studded soundtrack on September 22nd. The original soundtrack will feature tunes from some of our favorite artists, both new and old. Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler and Joe Perry rock out on the song “Bikini Bottom Boogie,” and Cyndi Lauper will lend her renowned voice to the song “Hero Is My Middle Name.”

The musical arrangements will also feature contributions from members of modern hitmaking groups like Panic! At The Disco, They Might Be Giants, Plain White T’s, The Flaming Lips, and more. It keeps getting better; they’re also including¬†David Bowie and Brian Eno’s famous “No Control.”

This sounds like a fantastic show that will appeal to viewers of all ages. Spongebob’s goofy and charismatic nature makes him an appropriate fit for the whole family, and the amount of raw talent and effort going into the song selection is sure to impress.

If you’d like an early listen to some of the new sponge-inspired tunes, NPR is streaming¬†an exclusive sneak peek over on their website.
